Deep Space by Studio LUNA

The project originates from a fascination with deep space—unknown galaxies, alien life forms, and speculative morphologies beyond human understanding.

By imagining objects not shaped by Earth-bound logic, the design explores what furniture might look like if influenced by extraterrestrial evolution. The chairs embody a sense of unfamiliarity, as if they were discovered rather than designed—organic, ambiguous, and slightly unsettling.

Approaching the project from a sculptural perspective, Studio LUNA developed a continuous, fluid surface language.

The rear of each chair unfolds like the skin of an alien organism—folded, stretched, and layered with tension and visual complexity. In contrast, the front softens into smooth, rounded geometries, carefully shaped to support the human body with ergonomic precision.

Each piece is robotically 3D printed using pellet-based extrusion, enabling large-scale, single-piece fabrication without molds. The process leaves behind layered textures that express both control and raw material behavior—like traces of formation over time.

The original pieces were produced in deep black, emphasizing their sculptural, almost monolithic presence.

From this foundation, the design evolved into a transparent product range, making the forms lighter, more accessible, and suitable for everyday environments while preserving their distinct identity.

The collaboration with Studio LUNA balances between expressive, alien-like forms and the need for everyday comfort. While the chairs explore unfamiliar shapes and aesthetics, they must still support the human body and function in daily life.The challenge is finding a point where something feels new and unexpected, yet still natural to use and live with.

The collection exists between sculpture and functional design.The black edition reads as conceptual objects—bold, speculative, and emotionally charged.The transparent versions translate this vision into a more approachable form, allowing light, space, and daily use to interact with the design.Together, they represent a complete narrative—from experimental exploration to livable design.Produced through advanced robotic manufacturing, the chairs point toward a future where furniture is no longer constrained by traditional processes, but shaped by imagination, technology, and new material possibilities.
