Planters
From Moroccan Fountains to Modern Planters: How We Brought an Idea to Life with 3D Printing
The white planters in this project were inspired by the timeless beauty of Moroccan fountains, where flowing water, soft curves, and rhythmic repetition create a sense of calm and movement. Rather than directly replicating a fountain, we focused on translating its essence into a sculptural planter—capturing the feeling of cascading forms and symmetry in a modern, minimalist way. Using 3D modeling tools, we developed organic, flowing geometries that resemble water frozen in motion, carefully balancing artistic expression with practical design.
Bringing this concept to life through 3D printing came with its own set of challenges, particularly with the complex curves and overhangs, which required us to refine angles and break the design into printable sections. Unlike traditional finishing methods, we chose to embrace the natural layer lines of 3D printing rather than sanding them away. These lines add a subtle texture that echoes the idea of flow and movement, almost like contour lines of water, reinforcing the original inspiration instead of hiding the process.
